Pupils take a Walk Through History at Aberafan

Students from Cefn Saeson Comprehensive School attended a special Walk Through Talk Through History Wales presentation, led by local Military Historian, Phil Barrow as part of the D-Day 80th Commemorative Exhibition at Aberafan Shopping Centre.

A group of 10 pupils and two teachers from the school were warmly welcomed by Chris Morgan, MBE, Centre Manager of Aberafan Shopping Centre.

In his welcome address, Chris shared his personal experiences of being involved in the 50th and 60th D-Day anniversaries during his service in the Royal Navy.

He also paid tribute to his grandfather, who served in the Royal Air Force and flew missions on the morning of 6th June 1944.

The event held special significance as all attending students have family members with a background in the Armed Forces. This connection added a personal touch to the historical presentation, making the stories and commemorations even more meaningful.

At the end of the session, each student received a certificate of attendance and a commemorative pin badge.

In addition, the school was presented with a framed commemorative watercolour painting, serving as a lasting memento of the day.

Open sessions of the Walk Through Talk Through History Wales presentation for the general public will be held in Centre Square at Aberafan from 11am to 2pm on Tuesday, July 23rd, and from Wednesday, July 31st to Wednesday, August 28th.
